All reports are that the Cascade Flyers - OutVentures Orcas Island Fly In was a great time full of fun and adventurous opportunities. Firstly, a big thank you to Jeff K from OutVentures for doing such a great job organizing this year, and taking care of so many logistics. (I was on a work trip to Ireland and was only able to attend Orcas on Sunday). Thank you very much also to Mark D and Rob and David for so graciously hosting the Friday and Sunday events at their homes.
Here are some comments from those who attended:
"I thought it was great fun. My thanks to Jeff for his organization, Scott and others for braving the downpour to cook us dinner, and Mark D for the potluck, the shuttle, the hospitality (especially driving down to rescue the soaked). And, of course, thanks everyone who came, without whom Mark and Jeff would have had tons of food leftover.......Thanks to Russ for allowing me to bring Stewie to the event; nice to have airplanes at a flying event because it makes the photographs look more realistic." -Bob
"With the exception of one terrifically violent and tropical thunderstorm, the Orcas Island Fly-In could not have asked for a better weekend."
"Mark’s home will be hard to forget, the amazing view, the wonderful art, the great food and the new friends made while toasting over the setting sun."
"Friday evening was spent sitting around a warm “fire”. The OV canopy provided just enough of a wind break for the propane fire pit to provide us a warm smokeless fire. Cocktails, left over dessert and the lights of the runway made for a wonderful nightcap. "
"Saturday was full of activities. I took my first flight in a small plane, (thank you Rob for keeping Fridays dinner where it belonged) got to ride on a powerboat, hiked up to Cascade Lake from the boat dock and took a cooling swim. There was also kayaking, bicycling, hiking and shopping on the activity list, plenty to do for all. I hope to see some of these photo’s posted and entered into the Photo Contest!"
"Scott and Bruce saved the day on Saturday’s pot luck BBQ. Thunder and lightning crashing all around didn’t bother them…they just kept cooking away. Man, were they drenched! I could not believe that the chicken I had was better than I make it at home."
"Sunday was a wet morning! The coffee perked early as we cleaned up camp from a crazy night of eating and drinking. Then the group managed to sqeeeeeze into 3 cars and we headed up to Rob and David’s for Sunday breakfast. After getting lost a few times we finally made it to the “cabin”. I’m not really sure you can call this a cabin…it looked more like a resort to me! :) The view was great, there was an outdoor fire, plenty of seating and great food. Thanks guys for letting us intrude on your Sunday!"
"Thanks to all who attended and helped make this event happen. It will be one I remember forever."
Another fun and adventure filled Orcas Fly In - thank you to all who attended!
